Hudah Nassali is the founder and team leader at Suphianah Investments Ltd., a company focusing on producing tea that optimizes good health naturally. “Our objective is to change the routine of people from consuming unhealthy junk beverages that put their lives at risk to consuming healthier options such as herbs and spiced tea to address their health issues naturally”
The tea products include Green tea, Hibiscus tea, lavender, peppermint, Rosemary, and black spiced tea.
“After University, my dad employed me at his school as an assistant bursar. While at it, I made snacks called “daddies” (bundas), which I sold to teachers and students so that I could make extra money to top my salary to take me through holidays. Later on I realized that teachers who came to buy the “daddies” picked particular interest in my spiced tea. This initiated the idea of making spiced Majani(tea)”
Hudah is passionate about encouraging youth and women into civic participation Her tea company created a 3-acre herbs and spices farm in Mpaata (Mukono) to train single mothers on how to grow, and harvest herbal tea and spices which they replicate in their own gardens. Almost 1 in every 5 households of the Mpaata community is single mother headed family mostly due to high domestic violence rates. Poverty levels are high with dependency on subsistence farming for survival.
“Working with these women has helped the company acquire raw materials, giving women in Mpaata an opportunity to improve their agricultural skills and also earn a living. It has also enabled them to shift their gardens from subsistence farming to commercial tea growing. The company has so far trained 137 women and 35 youth.
