The Mkazipreneur Skilling Sessions: Paper Bag-Making

In a remarkable show of capacity building and environmental sustainability, Mkazipreneur recently organized a paper bag-making workshop in collaboration with Natures Love Packaging, bringing together participants from near and far with participants coming from as far as Jinja and Kabale. The event served as a powerful reminder of how businesses need to encompass strong packaging and branding standards for their businesses using paper bags; an eco-friendly solution to drive business packaging to the future of sustenance.

With the environmental impact of plastic waste becoming increasingly problematic, paper bags present a sustainable alternative to convenient packaging with reusable ability and comfort to last more than one convenient use.

“More and more people should be using paper bags because they are convenient, affordable and best of all, good for the environment,” Babirye Allen Nantongo, Nature’s Love Packaging Co-founder

The hands-on session covered every aspect of paper bag production—from selecting the right materials customized to specific brand; to cutting, folding, and assembling sturdy, attractive bags. Participants also learned how to make a variety of bag styles and sizes to serve a variety of commercial needs and packages.

Allen emphasized both quality and sustainability, teaching participants how to optimize efficient production techniques to maximize output with minimal resources, essential for profitability in small-scale businesses.

Beyond technical skills, the skilling session also included sessions on basic entrepreneurship principles, helping participants understand how to market and price their products, manage finances, and attract customers. Many participants left with newfound confidence, seeing the potential that different branding could make to turn their businesses into bigger profit-making enterprises.

The session traversed just the skilling elements to paper bag making, but also allowed for interactions among participants, who shared success stories of branding and business execution.

As they take their newfound skills back to their communities, participants from this skilling session are poised to become ambassadors of sustainable business practices, inspiring others to pursue entrepreneurship with an eco-conscious mindset.
